I’m an ecologist, greenhouse gas accountant, and writer exploring the beauty, wonder, and challenges of living on the spinning blue marble we call the Earth.
I grew up in Nebraska, went to college in Indiana and Vermont, and have been fortunate to work throughout the world. I’ve called Fort Collins, Colorado my home since 1994.
My life’s work is to contribute to the body of science that describes how human decisions impact the earth’s land, oceans, and climate, whether for growing and harvesting food, managing or clearing forests, damming rivers, or creating cities.
I’ve worked for more than 4 decades in academia, government, non-profits, and private industry. I’ve contributed to work done by the IPCC and conducted greenhouse gas inventories on every continent except Antarctica.
Here’s my curriculum vitae.
I’m a backcountry skier, hiker, gardener, and reader, and I love to cook for my wife, my family, and friends.
